What you say about our race

Great Value, Charming and Enjoyable run

Not often is the word 'enjoyable' associated with a half marathon but in the case of the Sturminster Half its well deservered. The Route is well laid out, with excellent support in terms of the numerous water stations and comedy marshalls (in a good way: they were wearing themed fancy dress). The route is plesent with a few undulations to mix the tempo up a bit; there are some nice views of the surrounding areas and although the roads aren't closed there aren't that many cars to contend with. The race its self is an absoloute bargain! Very Nice T-shirt and an awesome cake at the finish, non-nom-nom. Excellent event, well worth putting in your calender for next year. I normally go for XC half marathons but this race could sway me back towards some more road runs.

Friendly, well organised and good value. It doesn't get much
better than this.

Being a relative newbie to running this race was my first at the distance having only run three 10k races before. The car parking, race admin and facilities were all excellent. The race itself was well marshalled with frequent water stops along lovely quiet country lanes. I will back next year for sure.

Brilliant Event
This was my first time at the Sturminster Newton 1/2 marathon (or Stur Half), and I must say that I found it to be brilliant. Considering that it's a fairly small event, it was well organised and the course itself was challenging without being a tedious slog. Top marks for the themed water stations aswell - the Father Ted/Craggy Island one made me laugh as I ran past! The only downside was the lack of a medal for finishers...but for £8 entry I suppose I shouldn't be too picky! Top marks all round.

Really excellent race
A really fantastic race! Good free parking and a well sign-posted walk to the start. A really nice undulating route with no real hills (the one at 11 miles was hardly noticeable). Great frequent water stations with friendly marshals. Really nice scenery around quite lanes with very few cars. Nice cake at the finish. Overall a really good half marathon that I would highly recommend.

My first half marathon, quite friendly first 5 miles but then the climbs begin.feels like a lot more ups than downs. last 2.5 miles consist of approx 2 mile climb and .5 mile fast downhill finish. great race great cakes, thanks

My Second Time and I'll be back again next Year
It's a great course, well marshalled and organised. Minimal traffic.
Demanding finish with a climb betweeen 11.5 and 12.5
Set a new PB (5m20s faster than last year).

Fantastic route, scenery and value
Great race - lovely route through the country side (could see evidence of people being made aware of race and there were few cars). Best water stops of any race - so many and manned (and womaned, and childed - if thats a word!) by super supportive individuals in fancy dress.
Organisation was brilliant - great finish, with lots of space to conk out at the end!
Well worth the entry fee

(maybe need a few more toilets at the start next year) Thank you Matt, we are acting on your comment, so there will be more toilets in 2012.

Well organised, love the water stops!!
My first 1/2 marathon, organised very well, slight shortage of loos though, lovely race all on road, watch out for the cars, few hills nothing major and a quick finish. Had one of the massages afterwards lovely about 5mins worth while. Loved it!!

Thanks to the Dorset Doddlers

I would just like to thank you and all who helped to organize the Srur Half race yesterday, it was a brilliant race and very well organized, the atmosphere was fantastic.  Your water station folk were great as were all the supporting staff.  Thank you –
All the best Emma Dennis

Hi, Many thanks to you and your team for organising a fantastic race yesterday. It was my first stur 1/2 and it definitely won't be my last!

Again well done for a great race & day :-)

Best Regards, Alastair Pickburn (2011)

Dear  Sir/Madam,

I wanted to take a moment to offer my thanks and  congratulations to all those involved in putting on such a wonderful event at  the weekend. The reputation of the race certainly precedes it on all the  running forums I viewed ahead of the race and as a visitor to the area I have  to say that it was a real pleasure to see that in reality the race is indeed  superbly organised and very well-marshaled, not to mention being a genuinely  friendly event that deserves all the plaudits it receives year on year. My  wife, who also ran the race, was equally impressed with everything including  the ladies-size t-shirts which were a thoughtful and welcome addition to the  race this year.

I hope I get the opportunity to run the race again in  the future, but in the meantime well done to all once again!

Best  wishes, Stuart McLay

Charming - well worth the trip...

If you're looking for a charming low-key half marathon surrounded by lovely countryside then look no further!

The locals make an effort to make an event of it & they do a wonderful job. From kids hosing runners down from their front gardens, clowns dishing out water, even the local vicar handing out prizes; this race just oozes charm.
PS: With very little shade available, if the sun comes out then you're gonna burn.

Excellent value!

What a great event it was yesterday. It has to be one of the friendliest & best organised races in the country with supportive marshals & drinks station’s volunteers. Congratulations to all those who assisted in the race.....just wish that last hill could be levelled!..... although I keep telling myself it's all good training!

Thong Man (2009)

Excellent organisation, plenty of water on a hot day and well-marshalled.

First time at this race and enjoyed it... even if the deadly incline from about 11.5 to 13 killed off any hope of a PB. Well done to the clowns (literally) at the final water station for making me smile, if only I'd known why you were laughing so hard! Thanks to the Dorset Doddlers for putting on such a first class event.

Clark1e (2009)

Well organised event, good finishing area

Can't fault the race for value and organisation and the marshalling and water stops were excellent. I felt the route was slightly 'hemmed in' as most of it was through high-banked country lanes that blocked out the scenery and trapped the dreaded heat. Good hill at the end though, I knew it was coming but that doesn't make it any easier! Through the tree lined path and down to the finish was great.

Great race

weather hot, managed a pb though! Well done to Dorset Doddlers, brilliant organisation!

First half marathon

My 1st half-marathon, enjoyed the whole race, thanks to - two members of Poole running club who kept me on pace

Richie Bridges (2009)

The best organised race I have seen except for maybe the FLM

Suprisingly tough course that seemed to have more ups than downs made it a hard race (even in perfect running weather).

It's not very often that the organisation at a race shouts out unless it's for the wrong reasons but it was 100% perfect with 2 or 3 marshalls where you might normally hope for one if you're lucky. A great example to other small races!

Captain Hook (2008)

Great race, did a PB!

Ulrich Kneifel (2008)

Personal best definite potential

Very well organised, lots of water stations. T shirt and homemade cake once you cross the finish

Debbie Loughran (2008)

Well organised. Well marshalled. Value for money goodies.

Excellent organisation by a club that know about running. Water every 2-3 miles, plenty of marshals. Scenic course.
Personally I find this race tough, despite the weather this year being cool, but I think its a mental problem following a bad experince in the heat a few years ago.

The Doddlers orgaisation is faultless. There a plenty of marshals and the goodies at the end, cake, milk-shake and an excellent t-shirt make this a great value event.
I'll be back next year to do better!

Mak's friend (2008)

Great - thanks to all who organised and arranged it.

I really enjoyed this race, perfect weather helped. Was on course for a good time and then lost it in the last two miles!

Running Bench (2008)

FAO Bath, this is how to run a half marathon.

This is one of the best organised races I've had the pleasure of doing and the high standards maintain year on year.

The entry fee is 1/3 that of the Bath Half marathon and the following aspects have been consistently better over the years: General organisation, speed of results, marshalling, goody bag, more accurate mile markers, medical facilities in place and on time, a baggage collection that lets athletes access clothes should a shower hit unlike Bath, a race run for the good of the athletes rather than to make a profit and organisers working their butts off for free and not on a salary.

Well done Dorset Doddlers.

ChristchurchJon (2008)

Nicely undulating in the first half, pure uphill in the second that required a lot of mental stamina. The weather was awful, but the organisation was great.

Milos (2008)

Some hard hills and unending lanes

Very well organised race, with an excellent T-shirt at the end and well marshalled throughout. This is perhaps an unfair commemt, but this was the most boring race I've ever done. Endless stretches of narrow country lane with big hedges on either side, with what seemed like continous long, slow uphill sections, made this a hard run for me. Look up and you really could have been in mile 1 or mile 13 or anywhere in between. Other than that (and that's probably a very personal perpective) a well run day out.

Tim Woodman 2 (2008)

Good conditions and not as hilly course as I had been led to believe!

Craig Dixon 2 (2008)

Fun in the drizzle. Very friendly. shame about hill near the end.

RTBH (2008)

Couldn't fault anything in this race.

Not the fastest course, but what it lacks in pb potential it gains in organisation. Well done Dorset Doddlers.

Hilly (2008)

Well organised, killer hill near the end, lovely cake, nice size field.

The hill between 10.5 and 12.5 is special, nice rural roads with very little traffic, well marshalled (dressed very interestingly), road camber was quite steep in places. Good finish area better than 2006 and the best cake you will ever taste.

Andrew Barry 3 (2008)

Nice quiet country lanes. A few testing hills with good sections of faster flatter stuff. Very friendly well organised race.

Henry Szwinto (2008)

Very well organised will be back next year

Weather much cooler this year 12mins faster than last year. Well done to all involved keep up the good work.

Adrian Dyke (2008)

Fast Friendly Well Organised.

Excellent race, mainly club runners but I felt welcome even though I am unaffiliated. The cool weather was a relief. A few little hills but nothing too taxing, couldnt be too hard as I beat my Bath half time by 13min.

Rodney1508 (2008)

Scenic, friendly, & well organised.

The weather was MUCH kinder this year. As a result I improved a good 5 minutes on 07. Well organised and very friendly - and lots of nice goodies at the end (though the invite to a 10m given to me as I crossed the line (cream crackered) was not quite so welcome - there are better times for agressive marketing!) Nice teashirt. Many thanks Dorset Doddlers.
