The 2012 Stur Half takes place on Sunday, 29th July. A week earlier so the race does not clash with some of the major Athletic events in the Olympics.
Starting at 10.30am from Station Road (DT10 1BB) in Sturminster Newton, North Dorset. It is a road race, organised by the Dorset Doddlers, on country lanes in and around Sturminster Newton.
As well as the half marathon there will be a 5K race, open to anyone aged 13 and over.
We are delighted that once again the race is sponsored by Honeybuns,
who make wonderful yummy cakes, and is also supported by many other
local businesses.
Not just a race, but an event for the whole family
The Blackmore Vale is a beautiful part of Dorset, so why not bring the whole family out for the day.
For the younger children there will be fun races including the Honey'BUzz' mile.
How to find the race
Sturminster Newton lies between Blandford, Shaftesbury and Sherborne, just off the A357. Go to the link on the left hand side for a map 'How to find the race'.
Race admin and late entries...
Both the Half Marathon and the 5K finish and Race Admin will be in the Youth Centre at Sturminster Newton High School (DT10 1DT).
The main race car park is also at the school, with access from Honeymead Lane. When this is full we will direct you to either the Leisure Centre or to other local car parks.
Refreshments – well, we are runners, and we like food,
especially after a long run!
Our refreshments team, who are raising money for the High School Walking Club, will help you refuel after the race with tea, coffee hot food and home made cakes. You will also be able to get a refreshing real ale, cider or a glass of wine from our beer tent.
Showers and changing at the Leisure Centre
Pre and post race massage… will be available near the finish, courtesy of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic.
The Presentation will be held on the school field, near the finish, at approximately 1pm.
Roger Brewster from Purbeck Sports will be back with us this year. If there is a running item you would like him to bring along, give him a call.
So don't rush home after the race – have a drink and a bite to eat, enjoy the presentation, go down to the Mill and make a day of it!
